Brush bacon slices lightly with oil on one side, then sprinkle with half of the sugar. Repeat with other side of bacon slices. Arrange bacon on a foil-lined baking sheet and bake, turning two or three times, until browned and crisp, about 20 minutes (slightly longer if bacon is thick cut). Watch carefully so that sugar does not burn.
While bacon is in oven, whisk together vinegar, mustard, 1/2 teaspoon salt, several grinds of pepper and 3 tablespoons olive oil in a salad bowl. Set aside.
Quarter apple lengthwise, and core and remove stem. Cut lengthwise into thin slices. Add apple slices and julienned turkey to bowl with dressing, and toss to coat well.
When bacon is done, remove, cool and break into large pieces.
Add spinach to bowl with apples and turkey, and toss to coat with dressing. Taste and season lightly with more salt and pepper if needed. Mound salad on six individual salad plates or on a single platter. Sprinkle with bacon and pecans. Use a vegetable peeler and shave some cheese over salad.
Note To toast pecans, spread on a rimmed baking sheet and bake in a preheated 350-degree oven until fragrant and lightly browned, 5 to 6 minutes. Watch carefully. Remove and cool

A recent market research report from Dell’Oro Group, a source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, said that the Ethernet Switch market grew for the second consecutive quarter during the third quarter of this year, driven by continued strength in data center deployments.
“Since early 2008, many new product introductions have focused on the data center and many of these products ramped strongly during the most recent quarter,” said Alan Weckel, Director of Ethernet Switch Market Research at Dell’Oro Group. “10 Gigabit Ethernet is leading the charge, both as a server connectivity technology and as an aggregation technology within the data center. In the short term, most of the overall Ethernet Switch market revenue growth will come from the data center,” Weckel added.
The report also shows that Fixed 10 Gigabit Ethernet revenues grew nearly 30 percent during the quarter with most of the growth being driven by purpose-built Fixed 10 Gigabit Ethernet data center products. Cisco and HP lead in this segment with a combined share of almost 70 percent of the total Fixed 10 Gigabit Ethernet port shipments

The Greek Revival building at 420 Bank St. has played many parts in downtown Norfolk’s history: private school, Civil War hospital, juvenile court, Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce headquarters. Come January, it will have a new role as the home to Norfolk’s Hurrah Players, a theater group for children and adults.
It’s easy to understand why Hurrah founder Hugh R. Copeland wants to jump for joy in front of the historic landmark. The new location will place the nonprofit group within Norfolk’s growing theater district. Near Chrysler Hall and Norfolk Scope, the building is within walking distance of the Wells Theatre and the Tidewater Community College’s Roper Performing Arts Center.
“Our location is ideal for opportunities,” said Katie Stone, Hurrah Players’ general manager.
Architect Thomas U. Walter, who designed the dome on the U.S. Capitol building, planned the structure, which was built in 1840 as Norfolk Academy, a school for boys

HE is at that age when trying to shift those extra pounds simply results in them stubbornly clinging on.
But as this picture of a rather more streamlined Elton John shows, he has finally managed it.
It took six long months of dieting and daily tennis matches – and then just a few weeks of an unfortunate bout of flu and E.coli to finally shed the weight.
By all accounts, the previously portly 62-year-old singer, pictured at an Aids gala in New York, is two stone lighter than this time last year. After cancelling a string of concerts, he is due back on stage in the U.S. on Friday.

WASHINGTON, Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ — The Electronic Payments Coalition issued the following statement in response to today’s release of a report on interchange fees from the Government Accountability Office:
Today’s GAO report concludes that consumers could be harmed if Congress acts to lower what merchants pay to accept debit and credit.
As the GAO noted in its report, merchants receive myriad benefits when they accept debit and credit cards, including increased sales and reduced labor costs. But giant retailers have been lobbying Congress to pay less than their fair share, and have their customers pay for these fees instead.
The GAO’s report leads to a clear conclusion: current interchange legislation places the needs of giant retailers over the needs of consumers. We urge Members of Congress to protect the interests of their constituents, and to oppose harmful interchange legislation.

CARSON, Calif. — DocMagic, Inc. (DocMagic), developer of DocMagic, the industrys
leading technology for compliant mortgage loan document preparation,
announced today that the San Francisco Superior Court overruled Ellie
Maes Demurrer to DocMagic’s Second Cause of Action, which asked the
court to dismiss DocMagics Unfair Competition claim brought under
Californias Business and Professions Code Section 17200.
In late August, DocMagic filed two lawsuits against Ellie Mae: one in
Federal Court for State and Federal antitrust violations, intentional
interference with contractual relationships, interference with
prospective economic advantage and unfair competition; and one in San
Francisco Superior Court, seeking a permanent injunction against Ellie
Mae arising out of Ellie Mae’s misuse of DocMagic’s proprietary
information in connection with the Ellie Mae Docs system.
Ellie Mae asked the court to dismiss the Unfair Competition Cause of
Action, contending that it was preempted by Californias version of the
Uniform Trade Secrets Act (CUTSA).
In overruling Ellie Maes demurrer, the Superior Court judge agreed with
DocMagic that its Unfair Competition claim stated sufficient facts to
constitute a cause of action against Ellie Mae, independent of the
CUTSA. The Courts ruling keeps alive DocMagics claim under Section
17200, a broad consumer protection statute prohibiting unlawful, unfair
or fraudulent business acts or practices.
In reference to the courts ruling, Dominic Iannitti, CEO of DocMagic
commented, While misappropriating others proprietary information is
not uncommon in the technology industry, its not the first time Ellie
Mae has been accused of such conduct, or the first time they have
attempted to circumvent having to answer for their alleged conduct by
